This month’s theme is Work. For more on contemplating how to bring your meditative self to work, see this interview with Michael Carroll, author of The Mindful Leader and Awake at Work.
In June we will explore Social Action. For a period of time Generation Y was referred to as Generation WHY, pointing to our sense of apathy. Over the last few years a growing number of people have begun to refer to us as Generation O, pointing out how a variety of factors (the election of Barack Obama, the economic crash, the Occupy movement) have roused us beyond that apathy and gotten more of us thinking about how to create positive social change. Share with us a story (or stories) about your experience in the realm of social action.
Here are some contemplations, if you’re looking for a jumping-off point:
- How does inner change relate to social change?
- Can you manifest compassion practices, even in the midst of an angry protest?
- What would Right Social Action look like?
- How can meditation inform social movements?
- Do you have to be part of a movement to create social change? What can you do on a daily basis that creates positive change in the world?
Share your thoughts. For a chance to have your work featured starting on June 1, submit before May 25th. We post a second round of pieces in the middle of each month too, if that deadline is unworkable for you.
