I’m not a writer and have never published anything before. May I still submit my work?
Absolutely. No previous writing experience is required.
What happens to my work once I submit it? How long will it take before I hear from anyone about whether it will be uploaded to the website?
Your work will be reviewed by our editors, who will respond within 30 days of submission.
May I submit more than one piece of work?
Yes. Please create a separate submission for each essay, story, poem, or other kind written work.
Can I also post my writing to my own or others’ blogs?
Yes, as long as the first publication is with us. Also, it would be great if you’d point your readers to our site where your work appears.
Who will own my work once I submit it to you?
The answer is always “you.” If we move forward with an eBook, we will contact you to obtain the necessary permission.
Does it matter if I haven’t formally become a Buddhist? Can I still submit my work if I’m simply very interested in Buddhism?
No and yes. You don’t have to be a Buddhist per se, although we will be most interested in writings from those who have a knowledge of Buddhism, at least enough to have an informed opinion about the refuge vows. You can definitely submit your work even if your interest in Buddhism is very new—just make sure to have a strong point of view and voice as you express your questions, insights, doubts, and hopes.
Does it matter what kind of Buddhism I practice?
No. We’d like to hear from practitioners of Zen, Tibetan Buddhism, Vipassana, Nichiren, and other schools. It’s all good.
Might my submission be rejected?
It is possible. Please be sure that your work is:
- Relevant to the stated objectives
- Appropriate (does not promote hatred, violence, or pornography)
- Coherent (basically well written)
Will you edit or alter my work prior to publication?
We hope not to. But be advised that our editors reserve the right to accept, reject, and edit and shorten your writing as necessary. If we make changes in content, other than fixing grammatical and spelling problems, we will consult with you before posting or publishing.
This sounds interesting, but I have questions not answered here. To whom may I direct them?
